Hawk Pick Reviews
Andrew Davidson
I only wish that I had found Hawk Picks earlier, as a mandolin player, over the years, I have tried many types, thicknesses, materials and shapes of picks with variable success, irrespective of price.
I have a box full of discarded picks.
Being left handed, initially I went to Hawk to see if left handed bevels would make a difference to the pick.
I purchased a Tonebird 10, which is rounded and gives a mellow tone that suits songs and airs. Then I got a Tonebird 2 that gave a bright ringing tone for jigs and reels. The left handed bevels did made a big difference and the pick glided over the strings with little pick noise.
Rob has now made me a bespoke round pick which is now my go-to pick of choice, nice tone, and very low pick noise.
I have got to say Hawk Picks are simply the best – I love the look and feel of them and Rob provide excellent customer service and the cost is what you would expect to pay for a quality product.

Having played guitar for 45 years and 35 of those as a professional studio musician I’ve learnt that the sound truly comes from the fingers…and the pick!!! I’ve tried them all, liked many but never loved any as much as I sincerely love my Hawk picks. They feel perfect and sound amazing!

I played the same guitar pick for YEARS and never even thought there might be something better…until I tried the Hawk TB6. It literally changed the way I play, and seems to last forever! I have played a dozen shows so far with ONE pick and it’s still going!

I could not believe how much this pick has turned my playing around. It has the tonal quality plus the precise edges that makes gliding across the strings fun, precise and articulate. Just incredible, thank you Hawk Picks for designing these custom picks… absolute gold!
These Picks are smooth man!
After years of enduring cheap, common, abrasive picks from music stores, and having developed my technique to accommodate the string resistance involved with using them, I was stunned to find how well Hawk Picks slid across the strings. I feel so much more fluid and fast now. I am in love with my ToneBird TB8’s. These picks are smooth, man!
I have finished my search for guitar picks!
Guitar picks can be the most basic part of a guitar players rig, I’ve always found it to be one of the most important.
I have changed picks too many times to count, but when Rob sent me one of his picks I made my mind up instantly that I needed to work with him.
When you do what I do and play all kinds of guitars everyday, shoot different styles of video demonstrations daily, I found myself picking up different picks to do different jobs.
But ever since Rob sent me HAWK picks I have come to realise I haven’t changed ONCE!
Due to Robs attention to detail and making the picks exactly the way you want them, it makes you feel like you have your own signature picks.
I can say that I one hundred percent endorse Hawk Picks.
I have finished my search for guitar picks!
Rob is the dude and gets what I’m looking for.
Thanks Rob
Hawk Picks are great, they have great tone, last ages and feel stunning
“I feel like I’ve found Aladdins cave when I found Hawk Picks!
For years I’d been looking for the perfect pick from my size hands, and always came up short. Finding Hawk picks and having the ability to work together on a pick that fits my needs has been really satisfying and now I have the perfect pick for me!
Hawk Picks are great, they have great tone, last ages and feel stunning!”
I can honestly state that my search for ‘my’ pick is over.
I was looking for a 3mm pick that would deliver on accuracy and tone and the TB6 pick delivered in bucket-loads! I heard an immediate and noticeable improvement in the articulation and tone of notes, even at the outer limits of my alternate picking speeds and the additional details of speed bevels and grip holes made me almost forget that the pick was in my hand. I have found that I needed to switch picks when demoing acoustic guitars too to get the best out of them…not anymore! I have been able to keep hold of the same pick across a range of instruments without the slightest compromise.
I am paid to consistently deliver quality demos of products, both live and on video and I have to say that I can honestly state that my search for ‘my’ pick is over. I whole-heartedly endorse Hawk picks!
I rue the years of time/tone wasted without Hawk Picks in my life
I was quite content with the picks I was using until a friend sent me a Hawk Picks TB6 to try. I instantly noticed the improvement in tone and feel. I used the pick for a while, and when I accidentally forgot to take it to my gig one evening, I was forced to return to my old picks: this was the final nail in their coffin. The picks that I’d used for YEARS now felt plain wrong – planky, harsh on the ear, and rough on the strings. I rue the years of time/tone wasted without Hawk Picks in my life.
I would give them a 10 right across the board
These Hawks are slayers!
Having used eight of the range we’re convinced of their merits. You’ll notice an immediate improvement in picking velocity.
The bevel and low-friction material enable the pick to glide across the strings, and we particularly enjoyed using the 1.6mm gauge TB4.
Verdict: A range of hand-made picks with custom bevels, that offer tangible improvements to tone and technique.
They’re not cheap, but are certainly worth seeking out . Theses Hawks are slayers! 8/10
Andy Lee – Grammy Nominated Multi Platinum Record Producer
Grammy Nominated, Multi Platinum Record Producer ‘I am always tone chasing for my guitar parts on my records.
Hawk Picks provide the tone I am looking for to cut through in the mix and live on tour,
Hawk Picks gives me a warm, fat, full round sound, that I have never heard before from any other pick.’
I find it’s hard to beat the Hawk
I find it’s hard to beat the Hawk – comfortable to hold, decent size, three different points to choose from and fine crafted bevels. The pick glides through strings, and pulls a rich tone and good volume from my mandolin. Overall a really well made pick with much less pick noise than others I’ve tried. I’m very happy with mine and just picked up my second.
Paul Riario Guitar World – I have to say I’m absolutely impressed.
Totally hear the difference in tone the minute it strikes the strings. I have to say I’m absolutely impressed.
The pick quickly articulates the notes with a beautiful, glassy tone.
I found I didn’t have to put too much effort in order for the pick to do all the work for me. Brilliant.
My guitar tone has instantly improved! Wow!
I just wanted to say thank you for the prompt delivery.
I’ve been constantly searching for the perfect pick. I’ve tried every other brand on the market.
Bottom line, none of them compare to this Hawk Pick.
Beautifully made, interacts with the strings perfectly and my guitar tone has instantly improved! Wow!
Sped Spedding- I absolutely love them!
I have been playing around with 4 different Hawk Picks now for about a month, two Large, two Medium Gauge Jazz III XL’s. I absolutely love them! My favourite has to be the Medium in the Turtle Shell finish.
They are so honest and produce the true tone of each Guitar you play.
The Jazz III XL’s also offer surprisingly good grip for a smooth finish pick and allow me to be accurate/nimble whilst providing maximum comfort and tone.
Hawk Picks are also hard wearing which is brilliant! I’ve been told I am quite an aggressive player, and I’ve been known to wear down picks and even tear through them after only a few days playing. So far so good!
Thanks Hawk Picks!
Simon Brady
‘I use Hawk Picks because they give me the best tone, control and playability. They are superb for playing live and also excel in recording sessions where tone is key and pick click is reduced down to a minimum.’

I’ve been on the quest for my perfect tone forever. I’ve tried nearly all the boutique picks out there and I have got to say Hawk Picks are simply the best – perfect non slippery feel, very warm and natural tone with very low pick noise!
I love the look of them and they provide excellent customer service with reasonable and balanced cost-effectiveness.
Fabian Ratsak
I really love the Hawk picks, they give me everything I need; grip, control and tonal balance!
Amazing Guitarist with Roomers.

I’ve been using your pick daily since it arrived and I like it very much. It has an excellent feel to it and it slides off and over the strings fluidly. After almost 10 days of playing, the edges of the pick remain as smooth as day one. So many picks develop little rough spots on the edges after a period of use that can cause it to “catch” on strings. I like the way your pick retains its smooth, beveled edges. I also like the way the three edges and corners are the same, so I don’t have to “find” the correct edge that I prefer to use.
Great job!
Jimmie Kleintop
Just received my picks from Riff City! They are great, definitely right on par, if not better than the Red Bears (make sure to let the fine folks over there know that!). I played them back to back and it is really hard to point out a discernable difference. I can say that it seems like yours have a nice presence to them, that little bit of bite that makes things stand out a bit more than the rolled of presence of the Red Bears.

‘These are by far the best picks I have ever used. From the first note I could tell they were something else. The tone, attack, and feel of these things are second to none. These are the best of the best. High quality, beautifully hand finished picks, that provide unbelievably rich tone and astounding playability.’
Greg Davis – the SB pick is going to give Blue Chip picks some competition
I was able to play my mandolin a bit last night and I tried out the new SB pick. Very nice indeed. I’ve been a big fan of the Blue Chip CT55 pick. This has been my only pick for over 3 years. My initial feeling is that the SB pick is going to give BC picks some competition.
I like the 3 different points/bevels to use for a variety of expressions. Cool indeed. I’ll be telling my friends about the SB pick and letting them take one of mine for a spin.
Stuart Robson – beautiful hand finished guitar picks
Absolutely beautiful hand finished picks. Great feel, expressive attack and rich, full tone… Just right.
Bret Hunt – Really Loving your Hawk Picks!
I ordered some ToneBird 1’s a little while back (I was actually your first Australian customer :)), and I just wanted to say I’m really loving your Hawk picks. I’ve tried so many picks it’s not funny, and have bought other picks since purchasing yours. But I find myself always coming back to the Hawk. The shape, feel and tone is awesome. So just wanted to say you’re doing a great job and I loving the picks! And will definitely be back 🙂 (That’s if they ever wear out!)
Mark Thompson – I’ll be a die-hard user from now on
I was sceptical at first but when I spent some time with my Hawk Pick of choice (TB4) I knew right then, I was hooked. I look at the picks this way, you always get what you pay for and a Rolls Royce plectrum is what you have in your hands.
The right bevel and material make for a really smooth glide into the strings and warm attack that is irreplaceable plus they feel really nice in your hands.
There is enough friction on the strings for the pick strokes to come through, as you would want, without annoying clicks and chirps, but also its slides enough to make easy rhythm and sweep picking effortless.
As I’ve matured with music styles I’ve found my hunt for tones has led me to the Hawk pick and I’ll be a die-hard user from now on.

Ian Goodey – I’m not looking for that ‘perfect pick’ any more as I’ve now found it!
Like most guitarists I’ve tried so many different picks over the decades – trying to find that elusive combination: perfect tone and feel.
I got a Hawk Tonebird 4 pick just to try one out, as you do, and I found it felt ‘different’ to all those others, the Hawk materials and workmanship were by far the best I’d seen from any manufacturer.
I have now played both types of pick – the Turtle Shell and Ivory models and although each have their own characteristic feel and sound, both types are equally outstanding in their own way. I’m not looking for that ‘perfect pick’ any more as I’ve now found it!
Steve Marsden – Hawk’s guitar picks are by far the best I’ve used!
‘I’ve been using Hawk’s guitar picks for over a year now, and in the twenty or so years of guitar playing I’ve used a variety of guitar picks from stubbys to jazz – even felt picks! I have to say that Hawk’s guitar picks are by far the best I’ve used!
Your tone comes from your hands, and with a Hawk handmade guitar pick in your hand, it definitely does! Highly recommended!’
Mark Rehling – I have to say your picks are the best I’ve ever used
‘I have to say your picks are the best I’ve ever used in my 23-4 years playing and I’ve tried a lot of them. I had settled on Jim Dunlop jazz iii for years but like to try new ones every so often. I’m glad I did as I tried yours out! I also tried gravity picks recently but they wear out so quickly and to be honest yours wipe the floor with them!’
Kelly Llorenna – Multi Platinum Recording Artist
‘Hawk Picks have a tone like no other pick I have used, they give your guitar playing a fuller sound that inspires you to play even better!’
Simon Hardacre – I was amazed at the difference Hawk Picks made to my playing
‘I was amazed at the difference Hawk Picks made to my playing. Both in terms of control and sound. It feels like an extension of my fingers, rather than an obstacle between me and the string.
The tone is bright but not brittle with a full bodied character. The definition and clarity is greatly improved on both single notes and chords. If you’d have told me all this before I tried them, I’d have largely dismissed it as esoteric nonsense, but I urge you to try them for yourself to see the difference they can make.’
